Cuties,harem girls,cartoon,Elmer Simms Campbell,1952
Title: [Cuties.] 'It's a quiz show. They want to know which has the worst temper, blondes or redheads. You answer him, dearie; you've been both!' / E. Simms Campbell.
Creator(s): Campbell, E. Simms (Elmer Simms), 1906-1971, artist
Date Created/Published: 1952 Nov. 2.
Summary: Cartoon shows a beautiful brown-haired chorus girl handing a phone to an equally beautiful redhead, suggesting the redhead is best qualified to answer a quiz show question comparing redheads to blondes because she dyes her hair. Campbell was one of the first black cartoonists to draw for mainstream magazines such as Esquire, Playboy, and the Saturday Evening Post. His long-legged chorus and harem girls were almost all white.
