Subjects include ascents by famous French, British, and Italian balloonists, including the Montgolfier brothers, Jacques Charles, Jean-Franc?ois Pilâtre de Rozier, James Sadler, and Vincent Lunardi. Balloon accidents are represented in views of Jules Duruof's crash at sea, ca. 1783; attempted flights by Abbée Miollan and Janinet (1784); and British balloonists John Sheldon's unsuccessful tethered balloon ascent from London, England, ca. 1784; two prints show the first parachute jump by André Jacques Garnerin, 1797.
