Title: Enter Roarin' Bill, Sheriff of Red Gulch
Creator(s): Darling, Jay N. (Jay Norwood), 1876-1962, artist
Date Created/Published: 1920.
Summary: Cartoon shows former Secretary of the Treasury William G. McAdoo as a rip-roaring sheriff, on a bucking donkey (with a tag reading 1920 tied to it's tail). The sheriff is firing his pistols into the air and galloping through a saloon full of Coal Operators who are diving for safety, while a group of miners outside the door cheer. The caption refers to the short stories, 'The Luck of Roaring Camp' and 'The Idyl of Red Gulch,' by popular Western writer, Bret Harte. In 1920, as McAdoo sought the Democratic presidential nomination, his controversial report blaming the coal operators for war profiteering was published.
