Title: People will be 'seein things' different from now on
Creator(s): Darling, Jay N. (Jay Norwood), 1876-1962, artist
Date Created/Published: 1908.
Summary: Cartoon shows a frantic well-dressed man trying to warn a baby GOP elephant of the goblins lurking in the woods. The goblins, each with the face of William Jennings Bryan, carry a sign reading, 'Bryan Will Be the Next President.' The elephant child is unperturbed, saying, 'Who's afraid.' A caption at the top reading 'The goblins'll git you if you don't watch out,' refers to the poem, 'Little Orphant Annie,' by James Whitcomb Riley, about a servant girl who warns of what will happen to misbehaving children. In the 1908 presidential campaign, the business interests, fearful of the populist views of Bryan, the Democratic candidate, supported the Republican candidate William Howard Taft. Taft won easily.
