Summary: European portrait prints of famous French, Italian, and British balloonists. French aeronauts featured in two or more works include Francesco Arban, Jean-Pierre Blanchard, J.X. Bureaux de Pusy, Jacques Alexandre César Charles, François Chaussier, André Jacques Garnerin, Joseph Louis Gay-Lussac, Henri Giffard, Jacques-Etienne and Joseph-Michel Montgolfier, Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier, and Albert and Gaston Tissandier. Italian and British balloonists include Vincent Lunardi, Charles Green, and James Sadler, the first English aeronaut. Women are represented by portraits of Mrs. L.A. Sage, the first English woman to ride in a balloon; Marie Blanchard; French parachutist Elisa Garnerin; and Adélaïde de Montgolfier.
