Related Names:

Date Created/Published: Mexico City : Blas Vanegas Arroyo, 1919 Sept. 17.
Summary: Newspaper page, on recto, shows an image of a demon, a skeleton, and a huge black bird hovering above a woman, Liberty, who is lying down on the ground, covering her eyes with her arm. The text on the recto conveys the lack of acknowledgment by U.S. President Woodrow Wilson of the interim presidency of Mexico's Adolfo de la Huerta; the denial of brigadier Rodolfo Herrero of responsibility for the assassination of Mexican President Venustiano Carranza; the denial by de la Huerta's interim government of General Félix Díaz's conditions and terms of surrender; and the gross negligence committed by a military man in illegally passing the quarantine line placed by the state of Veracruz to prevent the spread of the bubonic plague there. On the verso of this newspaper is the image used in the broadside for the 'Ballad of Macario Romero.' It shows Romero rearing a horse and similarly dressed men in the background. The verso text conveys: the provocative propositions made by U.S. Senator Albert B. Fall concerning property ownership by Americans in Mexico; the defeat of Francisco 'Pancho' Villa at Parral, Chihuahua; and the announced retirement of General Pablo González.
